Reading
  • I read more of Lirael by Garth Nix. I'm about halfway through now I think!
  • I listened to more of In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire. I am enjoying the goblin market parts, though I do wish there was a little more about the world outside of Lundy.
  • I read Slammed In The Butt By My Sentient Plant Based Vegetarian Cheeseburger by Chuck Tingle. I bought this one years ago and finally got around to reading it. A good time!
  • I read I'm In Love With The Handsome Mummy Racecar In My Butt by Chuck Tingle. Some very interesting worldbuilding going on in this, and that's saying something for Tinglers lol
  • I started Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy #5). It's been quite awhile since I read the fourth book, but it's been really easy to get back into. So many Dmitri feels!!
  • Ficwise, I was reading more Will/Ethan until I got a sudden craving for Gradence, so I've been doing some rereading of my faves. For such bad movies, the fic writers really have done a lot to create a great world and characters.
Watching
  • For the Mission: Impossible marathon, the roommate and I watched the last one before the current movie, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning. It was fucking terrible?? I don't know how it has such good ratings on IMDb and such because the dialogue was awkward and stilted, 90% of it was exposition that they kept unnecessarily repeating, they threw in a random backstory and seemed to forget everything else from previous movies, the fight scenes were boring and badly choreographed, they screwed both Rebecca Ferguson and Hayley Atwell in different ways... I could go on, but I think that's enough ranting lol
  • The roommate and I caught up on Game Changer. Very fun!
  • AEW as usual. Vaguely intrigued by the possibility of more Swerve/Hangman, but otherwise mostly pretty meh.
Listening
  • Nothing.
Writing
  • I wrote some poetry. I really failed at writing for NaPoWriMo, but I'm trying to work my way through the prompts still.
  • I edited a fic, which has now joined the giant backlog of fics I have to be posted :)

I love this dude. Blair sent me one of his videos and I liked it so much I started watching all of them. They're all quite short, too. So if you have ten minutes to learn about interesting things in a tongue-in-cheek humorous way, give it a watch (or listen).

I took it as a sign when two posts about this in a row crossed my feed, so now I am in, too! I have never done LJ Idol: Wheel of Chaos but here I go!

I FINALLY printed copies of the zines I made during April and May. If you would like some, send me a message with your address and I will get them in the mail. I am not comment screening, so don’t leave your address here!

Reading
  • Read some more on Lirael by Garth Nix. Love this book <3
  • I started listening to In an Absent Dream by Seanan McGuire (Wayward Children #4). Lundy wasn't a character I was particularly interested in before, but I'm enjoying this so far. Plus, I am a sucker for a Goblin Market!
  • Ficwise, I've been reading/rereading a bunch of Mission: Impossible fic, specifically Will/Ethan. Lots of fun, and I'm happy that I've already found several good fics I hadn't read before.
Watching
  • The roommate and I want to see the new Mission: Impossible movie that just came out in theaters, so we decided to rewatch all the previous movies. So much fun, love these movies! We've made it through Mission: Impossible, Mission: Impossible 2, Mission: Impossible III, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (my favorite! also the first one I watched, all for Jeremy Renner lol), Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (the roommate's favorite), and Mission: Impossible - Fallout. All that's left is Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, which neither of us have seen before.
  • AEW as usual. Mostly bummed this week about some releases, particularly Abadon not being renewed when their contract is up. Hopefully they'll do some more GCW, that'd be nice.
Listening
  • Nothing.
Writing
  • I finished up my [community profile] idproquo assignment, I think. There's still some potential to flesh out the ending some more, depending on how I feel this week.
  • For my goal of writing a fic for every book I read this year, I wrote a fic for You and Me and the Airbnb by Rena Butler.
  • The roommate and I went to a queer writers event at the library and one of the panels we went to was a workshop on love poetry. I wrote a poem during that.
  • Submitted some poetry to a lit mag.

Confession: I literally forgot, until today, that I have a Fandom Trumps Hate fic to write. Wooooow, Cass. It's a good thing we have until December to finish, innit? My life went into complete upheaval and I literally just forgot. That's a bad look. On the bright side, the person I'll be writing for is super cool and sweet and the request is definitely something I'm really interested in, so it won't be difficult at all to get into it once I can find some time and space to concentrate on something other than the cost and the logistics of my upcoming move. And hey, for all I know, my new apartment will provide me with the perfect comfortable space to really dig in and focus up.

Happy Pride! I always felt good having my birthday during Pride Month, and for the start of it coinciding with my birthday week. I'm going to do something to treat myself every day this week. Today, on Day 1, got a bag of goodies from 85 Bakery (which I am really, REALLY going to miss).

At the time of writing this it is now technically tomorrow, as it is 2:44AM. So, once I wake up, for Day 2 I'm going to go have a huge breakfast at this cool local hole in the wall called Cowboy Surfer Grill. The decor is equal parts surfer, cowboy, and Irish, for some reason.

In more unfortunate news, my friend Jess texted me to let me know that our mutual friend Sam was found collapsed in her bathroom by her husband and taken to the hospital, where she proceeded to have multiple seizures. There's a mass on her spine that she will have surgery to remove, they just aren't sure when. Last I heard, she's coherent and awake and close to being her usual cheerful self, just a little out of it and scared. I'm going to find time to go visit. It will mean spending many long hours on the freeway, but seeing Sam - and seeing Jess too - will be well worth it.

The game's not out yet; it's in kickstarter. But it looks really fun—a gonzo space opera setting, elective monarchy politics IN SPACE—the creator's several kickstarted games have all apparently came out when she said they would, and I did like Long Live the Queen a lot. So! Excitement. And icons.

Good: I found a dollar on the ground today.

Better: My final Disneyland day was yesterday, and honestly it was a really good day. It was very hot, but I managed to get on tons of rides, all my faves more than once. I wandered around, enjoyed the vibes, took a bunch of nice photos, did some things I don't normally do often simply because it was my last chance to do so, and just. I don't know. It was a really nice day. A good final visit.

Best: Last week I had sent an email to the owner of a massage clinic in Wisconsin, where I'll be moving to, and we connected over the phone. I wasn't expecting an actual interview, I was just going to ask a couple of questions, but he ended up giving me a full rundown and talking to me for over twenty minutes, and by the end of the call he said that he would be willing to take a chance on me without meeting me in person and that he would like to offer me a job. I was shocked, but elated. Holy shit, look at me go! I just need to make sure I can get my California license switched over (there are a ton of hoops for me to jump through) but he said that even if I can't get it done in time, I can apply for a six-month temporary license through the city, and that he will help me.

One of the many terrible things the current administration is doing is making sweeping cuts to science research, including climate and weather. This is dangerous for Americans of course, but also to people in other countries who use and build on research done here. The work these scientists do is important, and the cuts we're seeing now have the potential to cause problems for decades to come.

"From Wednesday, May 28th to Sunday, June 1st, join meteorologists and climate scientists from across the US as we share our work, and show you what makes it so vital. We will clarify the impact of the cuts on this research, and answer your questions about weather and climate research in the US."
